“This weekend, we remember December 7, 1941, not only with sorrow for the lives that were lost, but also with pride in the tremendous resolve that America showed as a defender of freedom and justice in the following days and years. The resilience and sacrifice of the many servicemen and women serving at Pearl Harbor united us as a nation and emboldened the American spirit to stand strong through adversity.

“It was through the sacrifices of American men and women, both at home and abroad, that we are able to enjoy the freedom and prosperity we do today. An entire generation of Americans stepped forward to combat evil and ensure the preservation of our ideals and democracy. The willingness of our nation’s servicemen and women to serve a cause greater than themselves helped secure our future.

“The men and women who lost their lives that Sunday morning at Pearl Harbor are truly worthy of our honor. Let us never forget the ultimate sacrifice they made on behalf of our country, and may they remain in our memory as part of this country’s greatest generation.

“Today, we also recognize the bravery and patriotism of the Pearl Harbor veterans living throughout Florida and around the nation. As we remember that horrific day, let us also not forget the thousands of servicemen and women and Florida National Guard troops who continue to defend our freedoms around the globe and here at home.”
