Office of Adoption and Child Protection
In accordance with Chapter 39, Florida Statutes, the Governors Office of Adoption and Child Protection has been established to promote adoption, support adoptive families, and prevent child abuse, abandonment and neglect.
This office is given statutory authority under 39.001 F.S. It is led by Chief Child Advocate Jim Kallinger. The purpose of the office is three-fold:
- Promote adoption.
- Support adoptive families.
- Prevent child abuse, abandonment and neglect.
- Developing and launching an adoption public awareness campaign: Explore Adoption.
- Developing and monitoring a state plan for adoption promotion and the prevention of abuse, abandonment and neglect.
- Launching and supporting the Children and Youth Cabinet.
