Office of Adoption and Child Protection
Governor Crist believes that more should be done to encourage the adoption of Florida’s children. In July 2007, he established the Office of Adoption and Child Protection. The new office is led by Florida’s Chief Child Advocate, Jim Kallinger.

The Governor supports a statewide public service campaign, called Explore Adoption, to let all Floridians know the value of adoption and how it can promote a culture of life in our state. Please visit www.adoptflorida.org or call 1-800-96-ADOPT for more information.
Child Abuse Prevention and Permanency Advisory Council
The Office of Adoption and Child Protection appointed the Child Abuse Prevention and Permanency Advisory Council. The work of the Council is critical for Florida’s planning and funding of future adoption promotion and child abuse, abandonment and neglect prevention efforts.

Florida’s Children and Youth Cabinet
The Office of Adoption and Child Protection also administers Florida’s Children and Youth Cabinet. The cabinet consists of 20 members and will coordinate state agencies and programs that deliver children’s services. The Children’s Cabinet will streamline the distribution of critical services to ensure that Florida will remain the best place for children to grow up in.
